Me Do!

10. February 2009 by Super Mega Dad 9 Comments

Around the age of 2 to 3, our kids have gone through a independence phase in which they want to do EVERYTHING by themselves.  From getting themselves dressed, to buckling themselves into their car seats.  Generally speaking, this is looked at as a welcome change because the kids can start doing things on their own and no longer need our help doing things.  For instance, now that Princess K can dress herself in the morning, it saves a lot of my time in the morning that I can get Super Michael's lunch ready, or get the backpacks ready for school.  However, every so often, if I don't check her, Princess K will put things on backwards, or shoes on the wrong feet and I won't notice this until we are walking up to Super Michael's school.  I'll have to sit her down, change out shoes and then we are on our merry way again.

Today, Princess K discovered Super Michael's digital camera that he got for Christmas a couple of years back and she figured out how to take pictures by herself.  I downloaded all of the pictures tonight because I was curious what she took pictures of.  There were tons of pictures of her feet, my feet, the floor, my leg while I'm sitting on the couch, and even my backside while she was following me around the house.

Princess K taking a picture of herself getting her pony tails in.  Special note:  The pony tail lasted a whole hour today!  Generally speaking, pony tails only last 10-15 minutes around these parts.

Princess K taking a picture of herself.  Note the look of pure concentration!

Maybe she'll grow up to be some new age photographer or something!

What kind of "Me Do!' things have your kids done?  Do they drive you crazy, or do you just deal with them as part of the whole growing up thing?

My kids have actually taken some pretty good pictures with our camera. Of course, the plan was for them to break it so I could get a digital SLR, but wifey figured that one out pretty quick. Not going to work.

Great piece.
I have a pic of my youngest, reaching up to the computer at the age of 2ish - where she could BARELY stand!
Lately, I've been handing over the camera to them and letting them have fun.  Of course - heavy editing is needed, but what you find is pretty funny.

It's great watching them grow, and try to figure out what they'll be good at.  I just want them to be happy and confident.

My four year old dresses herself (no biggie really, if she doesn't match) and 99% of the time has her shoes on the wrong feet.  I don't usually stop and switch them though.

My seven year old has also been taking pictures of herself.  She received a digital camera for her birthday and has mastered flipping the camera around and taking her own photo (she's actually pretty good at it).

They are all pretty independent though, so nothing really sticks out.

Hope the picture thing sticks...it will be fun to see the things she thinks are interesting as she gets older...and you will have a camera monkey so you don't have to worry about such things.

Hmmm, Super Mega Dad needs a new digital SLR as well.  I wonder if I could slide THAT past Super Mommy?
@ ian:
Hilarious video!  Looks like they did pretty good decorating that tree!
@ Margaret:
I read your post about the wacky clothes...man, I don't know how well that would go over here.  I get in trouble a lot with Super Mommy for not matching clothes "enough".  Usually those are the days that Super Mommy gets to pick out the clothes for the rest of the week. Smile
@ Bogart:
That IS true.  Currently, I'M the camera monkey, so training the kids can get me out of THIS role as well.  My goal is to be able to just sit in my chair and direct the household with my finger while I watch the game!

I wanted to comment on the Xbox post but the link was broken or something.  Anyway I am thankful personally for the video game creators every day.  The fact that they can help raise children is an added bonus.  Video game consoles are the gift that keeps on giving.

Hi Otter, thanks for stopping by.  It's all fixed now.  You'd think as a programmer, I would learn NOT to put funky characters in the URL string!  Thanks for letting me know about the problem, I just thought it was me!

That second pic is really cool.

We have that camera and you know how if you are too close to an object the whole picture comes out white?  Yeah, my son's really good at those pictures.
